Using Paint to Beat Crime: Anti-Climb Paint

Anti-climb paint is becoming more and more common as a low cost security addition in both commercial and domestic applications. Anti-climb paint has two advantages over traditional security measures such as barbed wire or spikes; it is less likely to cause injury yet provides an equally strong deterrent and secondly, is likely to have lower initial application costs.

Anti-climb paint is a the thick gelatinous substance which is applied liberally to fences, drainpipes, walls, roofs and virtually any other surface that may be climbed to gain access to a property. The paint never dries and remains both slippery and sticky making it virtually impossible to climb surfaces covered in it, certainly without getting covered in the paint.

In order to avoid unintentional contact with the paint, anti-climb coatings must only be applied above head height. It is also a legal requirement (certainly in commercial applications) to provide adequate warning notices that an anti-climb paint is in use. Warning notices in their own right also act as a deterrent to potential criminal activity.

Greens Decorating Contractors are experienced in the application of anti-climb paint and recommend using Coo-Var Vandeline, which is available in a range of colours and also in aerosol form.
